Q. What is a Dental Prosthetist?
A. A Dental Prosthetist is a trained and qualified dental practitioner that creates new full, partial and implant over dentures, repairs and relines along with custom mouthguards directly to the public.
Q. Do I need a referral to see a Dental Prosthetist?
A. No. There is no referral required to be treated by a Dental Prosthetist. They are qualified to treat the public directly.
Q. What is an implant denture?
A. An implant retained over denture is a denture that is held in position by both implants and the tissue of the mouth. Movement is much less than that of a conventional denture due to the implants and less of the tissue in the mouth is required to be covered by the denture.
Q. Should I remove my denture at night?
A. There is no scientific evidence to say which way is correct. We recommend patient preference, some people find it uncomfortable to sleep with them in while others find it hard to sleep without them.
Q. How often should I change my dentures?
A. On an average every 5-8 years depending on wear and fit. In some cases people are able to have dentures longer than this average but of course everybody is different.
Q. How long does a custom mouthguard last me?
A. For a younger person the mouth can change dramatically from year to year. If this is the case changing the mouthguard may be required each season. Generally when the mouth has stopped changing as much the mouth guard can last a couple of seasons or even longer.
